The Choice To Let Go

Oct 17, 2019

Last night I spent time with new and old friends. We talked about... a lot of things... but eventually we talked about letting go.

Our conversation eventually triggered me to think more about something I learned years ago. A teaching which helped me make the choice to identify, let-go-of and replace some limiting beliefs and thought patterns that were keeping me stuck.

The teaching comes from Eastern Philosophy. It is..

"We choose to let go, not because we are detached and unfeeling (or apathetic), but because we make a conscious choice to stop wasting our precious energy and contentedness on things we cannot influence and instead shift our focus to where we can have the deepest and most profound impact in our lives and life overall - which is within ourselves.".

Eastern philosophy teaches that we are part of nature, not separate from it. Therefore as the seasons change so do we and so does what we need. Autumn is the season where life contracts, closes, and turns inward. Autumn is associated with letting go. Think of the trees and how the leaves drop off and let go of the branches.

It's a time for us to let go too. However many of us have created lifestyles which don't allow for slowing down and turning in. But turning inward gives us the necessary time and space to understand ourselves and tap into that we want to achieve with our lives, and what we need to let go of.

This month in Soul Subscription we're honoring this season with visualization. I'm coaching members through the process of clearly visualizing what they want next in life. What they want to co-create and make space for. The interesting thing to remember about our dreams or visions is that nature doesn't operate by a 12-month calendar, but by energy. So we never have to worry about when something will happen as much as we must make the choice and take responsibility to tune in and manage our own energy and connection to our source, whatever name we give that.

How do we let go?

The first step is to take some quiet time to get clear-on what you want to achieve - and then what you need to let go of.

  • Sit or lay down in a quiet place.
  • Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Let your face, shoulders, and belly relax.
  • Imagine what you hope to be doing in 1 year. What will you have accomplished? What will your body feel like? How will your relationships feel? How will your actions be changing the world around you?

Next, think about what you will need to let go of in order to move forward with your dreams and goals.

  • Could you accomplish more by letting go of some anger?
  • Could you be stronger if you let go of certain vices?
  • Could your relationships be more meaningful by letting go of past wrongs?
  • Could you be more inspired if you let go of resentment?
  • What do you need to let go of emotionally, mentally and physically?
  • Is there clutter in your home, office or other personal space?
  • Are there distractions in your life you can let go of?

Here is my FAVORITE (it's so good!!) essential oil blend for letting go. It's called "noise be gone" and it was created by Desiree Mangandog, acupuncturist and essential oil expert. I LOVE it.

In a 10 ml bottle blend....

  • 8 Tea Tree
  • 3 Wintergreen
  • 3 Cypress
  • 3 Lemongrass
  • 3 Cedarwood

Fill to top with Fractionated coconut oil (or carrier oil of choice)
Roll on back of neck, midline of belly, inside of elbow creases as you practice the letting go exercise above. Also roll on 2x a day, am/pm. I actually now carry this one in my purse!

Okay, next take out your calendar...

Schedule time this week to turn inward. Go through the letting go practice above. Remember even if this inspired you, nothing really changes unless we take action. Do if for YOU!

With love,
